Meet Henri: The Four-Legged Supervisor at Locally Grown Gifts

If you've ever wondered what it's like inside the Locally Grown Gifts workshop, here's something you should know...

There's usually a French Bulldog keeping a close eye on everything.

His name is Henri, and he's convinced he's in charge.

Meet Henri

Henri is almost a year old, and from the day he came home, he decided the woodworking shop was his favorite place to be. Whether I'm milling lumber, sanding a cutting board, or putting the finish on a jewelry box, he's never far away.

Well... unless he's taking one of his many naps.

He's curious about everything, loves following me from one end of the shop to the other, and somehow always manages to be exactly where I was about to step. I like to think he's just making sure I'm paying attention.

His Job Around the Shop

Henri has taken on a few important responsibilities:

  • Greeting anyone who visits the shop.
  • Inspecting every pile of wood shavings.
  • Supervising projects from a comfortable spot on the floor.
  • Reminding me to take breaks.
  • Looking adorable in every photo he's accidentally part of.

He hasn't quite figured out how to sand, glue, or finish a project yet—but his company makes every day in the shop a little better.

Why Every Shop Needs a Dog

Woodworking is slow by nature. Every piece starts with a rough board, and with time, patience, and a lot of attention to detail, it becomes something that can be treasured for years.

Henri fits right into that pace.

He reminds me to slow down, enjoy the process, and appreciate the little moments between projects. Those quiet moments are part of what makes handcrafted work special, and they're part of what makes this shop feel like home.

You'll Be Seeing More of Henri

If you follow Locally Grown Gifts on Instagram or subscribe to the newsletter, don't be surprised if Henri starts making regular appearances. He's become such a big part of life in the shop that it only seemed right to introduce him.

After all, every woodworking shop deserves a good shop dog.

And I think Henri is pretty great at the job.
